Authorities in East Lansing, Michigan, are investigating after human remains were found inside a freezer in a townhome last week. According to CBS News, Police were alerted to the residence on Thursday, November 7, after a 911 call reported seeing blood on the floor. Responding officers confirmed the presence of dried blood but noted no signs of forced entry.

Upon searching the property, East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) officers discovered a body inside a freezer. Disturbingly, they also found what appeared to be additional human remains, possibly belonging to a second unidentified individual. The townhome, managed by Coolidge Place, now bears biohazard stickers on its front door, as reported by WLNS.

Local resident Andrew Whitney, who lives nearby, expressed shock, revealing that he had not seen any activity around the townhome for months. “We were thinking last night, how many days have we spent sleeping in bed potentially mere feet away from a corpse,” Whitney told WLNS. “Something violent and serious appears to have happened.”

The Michigan State Police are currently reviewing evidence collected from the scene. Although no arrests have been made, authorities believe there is no immediate threat to the public. Whitney also described the overpowering odor that permeated the area during the investigation, speculating, “I haven’t smelled death, but if I had to guess, it was the smell of death.”

East Lansing Interim Police Chief Chad Pride acknowledged that the time lapse between the crime and the discovery of the remains may complicate the investigation. However, he expressed confidence in his team’s ability to resolve the case. “My hope is we find something quickly, that way the public can be at ease, family can be at ease, neighbors can be at ease,” Pride said.

Coolidge Place, the company managing the townhouse, has confirmed its full cooperation with the investigation. However, due to the active nature of the case, a spokesperson declined further comment. Fox News Digital reached out to both the East Lansing Police Department and Coolidge Place management, but they have not yet provided any additional statements.

As the investigation unfolds, local residents remain on edge, and authorities are working to uncover the events that led to this chilling discovery in what is typically a quiet community.
