A shocking incident in which a one-year-old girl was hit and bitten by two nursery workers in Brazil has been caught on camera, leaving her parents devastated. The disturbing footage, recorded on October 7, shows the toddler playing with other children at the Tutti Bambini nursery in Uberlândia before being assaulted by two staff members.

In the video, one of the workers, whose name has not been released, leans over and slaps the child on her backside before attending to another baby. Moments later, an 18-year-old worker enters the room, aggressively picks the girl up off the ground, and forcefully sits her down. She then grabs the toddler’s left arm and bites her while the other worker watches without intervening, according to the Daily Mail.

The child, visibly in pain, touches her arm before the younger worker pulls it back and applies an unknown substance to the bite mark. The parents of the girl noticed the mark later and were told by the staff that the baby had bitten herself. However, suspicious of the explanation, they demanded to review the surveillance footage, which revealed the disturbing truth.

The toddler’s father, who chose to remain anonymous, shared with TV Integração that his wife has been consumed with guilt ever since learning of the abuse. He expressed frustration that the nursery seemed more concerned with protecting its reputation than addressing the welfare of their daughter.

The child’s mother, equally devastated, said she has struggled to sleep since the incident, waking up in the middle of the night crying. “Everyone stood there, looking at her, and she cried for minutes. They kept pulling her arm to see if there was a mark, applying cream with all their strength,” she said. “It destroyed me. It was something I never thought of… My daughter is one year old, and she has no way of defending herself.”

Both nursery assistants were immediately fired from Tutti Bambini on October 8, following the incident. The school issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to care and attention over its 10-year history, stating, “We have prioritized the creation of a family and supportive environment, as has been noticed by all the parents who have been with us throughout this time. However, we recognize that we have no control over individual reactions and behaviors, and unexpected situations may occur.”

The parents continue to deal with the emotional toll of the incident, as the footage has left them heartbroken and outraged at the mistreatment of their defenseless child.
