As the trial of Nima Momeni, the man accused of killing tech executive Bob Lee, moves into its second day, Momeni’s sister, Khazar Momeni, is expected to take the stand. Bob Lee, who was 43 at the time of his death, had been at Khazar’s apartment on the night of April 4, 2023, before leaving with her brother Nima in the early hours. The two then drove in Nima’s white BMW to a secluded area under the Bay Bridge, where Lee was fatally stabbed.

Defense attorneys argue that Nima acted in self-defense, claiming that Lee had attempted to stab him first. Prosecutors, however, paint a different picture, accusing Nima of stabbing Lee after becoming convinced that something “inappropriate” had occurred between Lee and his sister, Khazar.

In their opening statements, prosecutors described Nima as a “wannabe tough guy big brother,” suggesting that his overprotectiveness led him to commit the violent act. During Monday’s proceedings, jurors were shown chilling audio and video footage of Lee’s final moments, as he stumbled away from the scene, leaving a trail of blood before eventually succumbing to his injuries.

Key evidence presented in court also included text messages from Khazar to Nima. In one message, Khazar reassured her brother that she had not been raped by Lee and explained that Lee had been acting erratically due to cocaine use, calling him a “lunatic.”

The trial continues to attract attention as Khazar’s testimony is anticipated to shed more light on the events leading up to the fatal encounter. While the defense maintains that Nima’s actions were in response to an attack by Lee, the prosecution aims to prove that Nima acted out of rage and overprotectiveness towards his sister.

As the trial progresses, both sides will continue to present their arguments, but the outcome remains uncertain as the jury weighs the evidence in this high-profile case.
