The iconic Campbell Soup Company is making a significant change to its identity after more than a century. At its annual investor meeting on Tuesday, September 10, the company revealed plans to change its name to “The Campbell’s Company,” officially removing “soup” from its title.

While the brand is globally known for its soup, it has grown into a multigenerational food powerhouse with a diverse portfolio of meal and snack brands. The company believes it’s time to reflect this evolution. Campbell’s president and CEO, Mark Clouse, explained the decision in a statement, calling it a turning point for the historic company.

“This subtle yet important change retains the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation, and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company’s portfolio,” Clouse said.

Campbell’s now oversees a variety of well-known brands, including Cape Cod, Goldfish, Kettle Brand, Lance, Late July, Milano, Pacific Foods, Pepperidge Farm, Prego, Snyder’s of Hanover, Swanson, and V8. Clouse emphasized that while Campbell’s is synonymous with soup, the company has evolved far beyond that product alone.

During the investor meeting, Clouse underscored that the company is entering a phase where its “strengthened team, transformed portfolio, and rebuilt capabilities” are poised to consistently succeed. The proposed new name “respects our heritage, but also reflects who we are today,” he added.

“A name that celebrates soup. In fact, the name, font, and color match our iconic red and white soup can,” Clouse noted. “And as I said earlier, we will always love soup and we’ll never take our eye off of this critical business. But today, we’re so much more than soup.”

The name change is set to be voted on at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in November. If approved, the new name will officially take effect after the meeting.

A representative for Campbell’s reassured PEOPLE that despite the corporate rebranding, the company will still be commonly known as “Campbell’s” to consumers.
