Armie Hammer, the once-celebrated actor whose career took a dramatic nosedive amid scandal, is making some major life changes. In a candid Instagram video posted on Tuesday, August 27, the 37-year-old revealed that he has moved back to Los Angeles and, due to skyrocketing gas prices, has decided to part with his beloved pickup truck.

“I’ve been back in LA for a couple of weeks now. This is my truck. I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself, because I’ve had pickup trucks for a long time, and I have loved this truck intensely,” Hammer shared as he stood in a Carmax parking lot, ready to sell the vehicle. “This is not an ad for Carmax. This is because I am selling my truck”, told Page Six.

Hammer explained that since his return to LA, he has spent between four to five hundred dollars on gas alone. “I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore,” he admitted, underscoring his financial challenges.

The truck holds deep sentimental value for Hammer, who revealed that he had taken it on camping trips, and cross-country adventures, and even brought his children home from the hospital in it. However, with his 38th birthday on the horizon, Hammer is embracing change. “But ya know what? That’s okay. I got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’m probably going to put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month and this is it,” he said, reflecting on his new chapter.

As Hammer panned the camera around the truck’s interior, showcasing the belongings he needed to clear out, one item caught attention: a large bundle of rope. Given the actor’s alleged involvement in BDSM, particularly shibari—Japanese rope bondage—this detail did not go unnoticed.

Hammer’s decision to sell the truck marks a symbolic fresh start as he moves into a new apartment and drives a more economical vehicle. “I will be starting my birthday in a new car in a new apartment in a new life in Los Angeles,” he said, acknowledging that his children are “not happy” about the sale due to their many shared memories in the truck. However, he remains focused on the positives: “Parking is gonna be easier, and gas is gonna be cheaper.”

Hammer’s financial struggles have been well-documented since allegations of sexual misconduct derailed his acting career. In 2021, photos emerged showing Hammer working at a new job selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands. “I loved it,” Hammer said during a July interview on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, humorously adding, “That’s the wrong vowel—it’s ‘bills.’ I have two kids.”

Hammer and his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers finalized their divorce in June 2023. The settlement requires Hammer to pay $1,500 per month in child support, a figure set due to his lack of substantial income. Despite the difficulties, Hammer appears to be navigating his new reality with determination, focusing on the future as he enters this next chapter of his life.
