A 25-year-old woman accused of stabbing a man and beating him with a baseball bat in a shower has claimed she acted in self-defense. Briley Shayne Turner was found covered in blood and lying on a couch at an apartment in Kinser Flats, Bloomington, Indiana, on Sunday, August 18. Despite the blood, Turner had no visible injuries and reportedly told police, “I had to defend myself, dude.”
Officers from the Bloomington Police Department discovered a gruesome scene in the apartment’s bathroom. A 36-year-old man was found with severe injuries, appearing to have been beaten with a baseball bat and repeatedly stabbed. The man was rushed to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he underwent surgery and remains in serious condition.
The police found several blood-covered weapons at the scene, including a “black-handled tire plug tool with a metal spike on it” and a baseball bat. According to court documents obtained by Law&Crime, the bathroom contained a bloody plastic handle of a kitchen knife with the metal blade missing, near the bathtub. Additionally, a bloody tire plug tool was found on the floor near the sink, and in the main living room, a bloody baseball bat was leaning against the wall near the door.
Turner reportedly told officers that the man “tried to get me” when they arrived at the scene. She explained, “He tried to put that stuff down my throat. I don’t know what he put in my throat, and I had to defend myself, dude. I tried to defend myself.”
However, the man provided a different account, telling police that Turner suddenly attacked him with a baseball bat as they were about to enter the shower. He claimed they were not arguing before the attack and that she began stabbing him all over his body.
The man sustained numerous injuries, including wounds to his abdomen, a puncture wound to the back of his neck, and stab wounds to his upper chest, rib cage, scrotum, left quadricep, left hip, and right buttock. He also suffered lacerations to his forehead and left cheek, as well as a broken left arm.
Turner has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery. The case is ongoing as investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the violent altercation.
