Rebecca Chitwood’s world came to a halt last Sunday when she received a devastating call that her daughter was in the hospital. “When I got the call, I just dropped everything and sped all the way to the hospital,” Chitwood recounted. Chitwood explained that her children were playing in their grandparents’ backyard when the neighbor’s dog entered the yard and began biting her daughter, Lillian, on the face. The attack left Lillian with numerous severe injuries. “There was a slice on her neck, and it was about three centimeters from severing the artery,” Chitwood shared. “Another bite went all the way down on her face.”

Lillian is now in recovery, but the pain from the attack and the prospect of extensive nerve damage lingers. The uncertainty surrounding the need for further surgeries adds to the family’s anguish. Despite the grim situation, there is a silver lining – the heroic actions of Nicholas, who rushed to his sister’s side and fought off the dog. “I didn’t want her to die,” Nicholas said, his words reflecting the gravity of the moment.

Lillian expressed her gratitude and admiration for her brother. “It was hard but I’m thankful for my brother to help me because if he didn’t, I would be dead by now.” The bond between the siblings has only strengthened through this ordeal, highlighting the depth of their connection.
