Meghan Markle paid tribute to Princess Diana at the Global Citizen Vax Live: A Concert to Reunite the World event, hawk-eyed royal fans noticed.

The 39-year-old Duchess was among the famous faces taking part in the televised event – which was recorded in the USA last week and hosted by pop sensation Selena Gomez.

World leaders, celebrities, musicians and actors united to encourage people to get vaccinate to help end the global Covid-19 crisis.

Featuring in VT footage, Meghan appeared to give a nod to the mother-in-law she never met by wearing her iconic gold Cartier Tank Française watch while giving an address.

The square-faced watch belonged to the late Lady Diana, who died in 1997 aged 36, and was rarely off her wrist in the 1990s as she conducted charity work and public engagements.

The watch itself was reportedly a gift from Diana’s father, John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer.

It is believed Prince William inherited the watch following Diana’s death in 1997, but the prince passed the watch on to his younger brother, Prince Harry, around 2009.

Meghan, who is currently pregnant with her second child, featured in a video where she encouraged the public to get vaccinated.

She said: “The past year has been defined by communities coming together tirelessly and heroically to tackle Covid-19.

“We’ve gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter.

“But it’s going to take every one of us to find our way forward.

“As campaign chairs of Vax Live, my husband and I believe it’s critical that our recovery prioritises the health, safety and success of everyone – and particularly women, who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic.”

Some viewers were quick to notice the watch Meghan was wearing the infamous watch.

One social media user commented: “It’s lovely she’s wearing Diana’s old watch.”

While another agreed, writing; ”Credit Meghan, she’s showing her appreciation to the royal family there.”

During her Vax Live appearance, Meghan also shared a message of empowerment for women across the USA.

She explained: “women, and especially women of colour, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out [by the pandemic” citing the fact that 5.5 million women have lost their jobs in the US since lockdowns began.

And she noted that as many as 47 million women and girls across the world are expected to be pushed into poverty due to the global health crisis.https://get-latest.convrse.media/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailystar.co.uk%2Fnews%2Flatest-news%2Fmeghan-markles-tribute-princess-diana-24071721&cre=bottom&cip=31&view=web

Offering hope, she continued: “But if we work together to bring vaccines to every country and continent, insist that vaccines are equitably distributed and fairly priced, and ensure that governments around the world are donating their additional vaccines to countries in need, then we can begin to fully rebuild.”

She added. “Not only to restore us to where we were before, but to go further, and rapidly advance the conditions, opportunity, and mobility for women everywhere.”
