Former United States (US) President Donald Trump lashed out on Twitter against MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski back in June 2017 after she had undergone cosmetic surgery.
According to the details, Trump lashed out at Brzezinski in two vicious tweets calling Mika Brzezinski “low I.Q. Crazy Mika” and claiming she had a facelift late last year.
Trump also called Joe Scarborough “Psycho Joe” and said the hosts came to Mar-a-Lago — his private club in Palm Beach, Fla. — three nights in a row around New Year’s Eve “and insisted on joining me.” He claimed that Brzezinski “was bleeding badly from a facelift” at the time and that, “I said no!
Now Brzezinski is opening up about the origin story of Trump’s tweet.
In conversation with the Beast’s editor at large Molly Jong-Fast, she said she and her husband and MSNBC co-host Joe Scarborough visited the former president and his wife Melania Trump at their Palm Beach, Florida resort on New Year’s Eve 2016, a few days after she had a procedure done to reduce wrinkles under her neck.
“I actually had gotten like a thing on the sides of my neck, like I guess they call it like a chin tuck,” she tells co-host Molly Jong-Fast in this episode of The New Abnormal. “Four days later, it’s New Year’s Eve and Trump is calling Joe and he’s like ‘Where’s Mika?’ He’s always obsessed with me.”
Still loopy on painkillers from her surgery, and against Joe’s advice, she says she made the trip down anyway and found herself turtle-neck clad, having a conversation with Melania about her chin tuck—inside the couple’s bedroom. “Melania was very curious about (the procedure),” Brzezinski said.
“I’m talking to Melania about it, woman to woman, then Donald came up and said, ‘You know, Melania has had no work done. She’s perfect.’‘’
I’m like, ‘That’s great.” A few months go by, she makes some disparaging remarks about Trump on air and the next thing she knows, the tweet happens.
“I literally laugh out loud. Uproariously I thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever read,” she says, before explaining how she and her team plotted their response.
When Jong-Fast expressed skepticism that the Slovenian-born former model never had cosmetic surgery, Brzezinski said Trump exclaimed, “She’s very beautiful, and I said (to Melania) you’re very beautiful.”
