COVID-19 ‘escaped’ from a Chinese lab, says Trump’s CDC director

The former director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said COVID-19 ‘escaped’ from a Chinese lab.

The origin of the COVID-19 virus has yet to be found, but according to the former director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus “escaped” a Chinese lab.

According to Robert Redfield, the former director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Trump administration, SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the COVID-19 began circulating in China’s Hubei province in September or October of 2019.

Redfield dropped this news during an interview with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta on Friday, saying, “That’s my own view. It’s only an opinion. I’m allowed to have opinions now.”

When asked about the origins of the virus, Redfield said, “I am of the point of view that I still think the most likely etiology of this pathogen in Wuhan was from a laboratory.

Escaped. Other people don’t believe that. That’s fine. Science will eventually figure it out. It’s not unusual for respiratory pathogens that are being worked on in a laboratory to infect the laboratory worker.”

The comments from Redfield come after the World Health Organization ruled that the chances of COVID-19 escaping a lab was very low, and it’s more likely that the virus jumped from animals to humans.
