There are new COVID-19 infections on the rise across more than ten states in the United States. These are the 14 states.
In some parts of the US, COVID-19 cases are on the rise as COVID-19 vaccines are rolling out around the country.
CNN has reported that there are more than ten states that are reporting new surges of COVID-19 cases. Primarily, these increases are happening in the upper Midwest, New York area, and the Mid-Atlantic.
Reports indicate that Michigan has seen the largest jump in cases with a 50% increase over the last two weeks.
Additionally, Midwestern states such as Montana, North Dakota, and Idaho are also reporting an increase in new cases.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said to PEOPLE, “I understand the urge to get back to normal as soon as possible, but I don’t agree with it.
It’s risky and could set us back to a place that’s even worse than where we are now … and lead to additional surges. … Even when the authorities pull back on [preventative] recommendations, I would urge people to follow the recommendations from the CDC”.
Dr. Fauci also says that it’s too “early to declare victory”, but as vaccines roll out around the country and the more we hold public health measures in place, “we could be headed on a steady pathway toward things getting progressively back to normal.”
