When Rebecca and Morris Netcher dropped their dog off at the groomer, they expected the woman to handle their beloved pooch with care.
The couple claims they waited 10 hours and finally received a call from the groomer to come to pick the dog up. Ona arrival to Paws and Claws in Merritt Island, Florida, they were mortified by the condition of their beloved Goldendoodle, Lochlan.
“She brought him out, and he had a towel around his neck, and he had been cut in numerous locations — around seven,” Rebecca Netcher shared. “I mean, big gashes. It was so bad.”
The Netchers reported the groomer, Kelly Jo Strabley, to Brevard County Animal Services. An investigation revealed Strabley did not seek medical care for Lochlan after his massive injuries. The poor dog required many stitches over several sections of his body. It wasn’t the first time Strabley faced trouble with the law.
Court records revealed back in 2017, she was cited for leaving a dog in the sun for too long. At that time, Strabley accepted a plea bargain.
She appears on the Brevard County Animal Abuse Database. Her animal care business license was revoked by the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County, and she was ordered to cease operations within 24 hours. Sadly, Strabley is still grooming and her business is still open.
“The license wasn’t submitted under Ms. Strabley’s name. It was under an employee’s name, and the business is now in their employee’s name,” FDOH Assistant Director Anita Stremmel said.
Strabley also owes over $1,300 in court fines and has yet to pay them. Strabley declined to comment on the case when a local reporter approached her.
