Melania Trump blasts media’s ‘unhealthy obsession’ with her since leaving White House

Melania Trump has slammed the media’s “unhealthy obsession” with her since the family left the White House.

She has been the subject of a number of articles since President Donald Trump left office in January.

The former first lady’s office’s official Twitter account was responding to a Tweet from one of her supporters about a CNN story claiming that Mrs Trump was disengaged from her husband’s second impeachment trial, for which he was acquitted.

The office said: “Mrs Trump is no longer First Lady. She is a private citizen, mother & wife.

“Sources in this article are not affiliated w her nor have insight into her thoughts or daily life. CNN’s FLOTUS Correspondent choosing to publish false gossip illustrates the media’s unhealthy obsession.”

President Trump left office last month after losing November’s US election to Joe Biden.

The CNN report claimed Mrs Trump was spending most of her days at the spa in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

It also claimed she was mostly avoiding talking about politics and was not taking an interest in her husband’s impeachment trial for inciting the riots at the Capitol in January in which five people died.

A source said: “She goes to the spa, has lunch, goes to the spa (again) and has dinner with Donald on the patio. Rinse and repeat. Every day.”

Another insider said the former first lady had an “affinity” for the private spa and it was not unusual for her to spend hours there using it to her disposal.

It was also reported in CNN that Mrs Trump was “jealous” of the instant popularity enjoyed by new first lady Jill Biden.

Mr Trump was found not guilty in his Senate impeachment trial. He was accused of inciting an attempted insurrection by his supporters on January 6, which saw him banned from most social media platforms.

Congress will now establish an independent commission to investigate further.

Although the final vote came in as 57 “guilty” and 43 “not guilty”, the Democrats did not reach the two-thirds majority they needed to secure a conviction.

Mr Trump became the first president to be impeached twice.

Afterwards, he said: “I always have, and always will be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honourably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.

“No president has ever gone through anything like it, and it continues because our opponents cannot forget the almost 75 million people, the highest number ever for a sitting president, who voted for us just a few short months ago.”

US President Joe Biden said the acquittal was a reminder that democracy was “fragile”, and every American had a duty to defend the truth.
