The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled this specific dog food as it has been linked to more than 100 dog deaths.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning about a certain dog food that has been linked to the deaths of more than 100 dogs.
According to a bulletin post on the FDA website, Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc is issuing a voluntary recall for some of its pet food for cats and dogs. The reason for the recall is due to tests indicating that the pet food has levels of Aflatoxin that exceed acceptable limits.
So, what is Aflatoxin? According to the FDA, “Aflatoxin is a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus”, and signs of it can be “sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting jaundice (yellowish tint to the eyes, gums, or skin due to liver damage), and/or diarrhea”. The FDA post also says that there have been reports of illnesses and deaths in dogs that are have linked to the recalled products.
CBS News has reported that more than 110 dogs have died, and more than 210 are reportedly sick due to this recalled pet food. If you own this product, it’s recommended to cease using it immediately and destroy it so children or other animals cannot eat it. It’s also recommended that pet owners who have this product sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. Below you will find the recalled pet food list, expiry date, and lot codes.
