Dehydration symptoms you should know

If your body loses too much fluid or more fluid than its taking in, then you are dehydrated. Dehydration can happen for a number of reasons but the main reasons of dehydration in general include diarrhoea, vomiting, sweating too much, urinating too much, having a fever, or (simply) not drinking enough.

Bad breath

If you are dehydrated, your breath will smell real bad. Saliva has important antibacterial properties but when you are dehydrated, saliva production in the mouth decreases and it allows bacteria to thrive and that bacteria can result in bad breath.

Sugar cravings

Dehydration can mask itself as hunger and can result in sugar cravings. This happens more if you have been exercising. If you exercise when you’re dehydrated, you use glycogen or stored carbohydrates at a faster rate. That will quickly diminish the glycogen store in your body. That’s why, you will like lists crave carbs or sugar once you complete your exercise to replenish the glycogen levels.

Dry skin

If you’re dehydrated, your skin will become dry. If you already have dry skin, it may be because you’re not drinking enough water. Dehydrated skin will be tight and appear dull when you look in the mirror. You may also see more wrinkles and darker than usual under eye circles.

Tiredness

If you feel tired at different times of the day, it can be because of dehydration. If you’re very tired at the mid-day and you need a mid-afternoon slump, it may be because of dehydration. Several symptoms of dehydration can make you feel sleepy. You may find performing your physical tasks more difficult and tiring because your muscles do not have the necessary water. Water is very important for muscles to function properly.

Irritability

If you’re feeling cranky, simply drinking a glass of water will improve your mood. Because of neurological effects of dehydration, you may feel irritable. If you are dehydrated, besides feeling irritable, you may also suffer from headaches and loss of focus. Different scientific studies have found that dehydration has some neurological effects.
