5 Household Hacks to Keep Your Fancy Jewelry Clean and Shiny

Your Fancy Jewelry Clean and Shiny

Has your expensive wedding ring lost its gleam? What about that favorite gold necklace of yours that you wish you could wear to every occasion? And those silver earrings you wear all the time? Are they still shiny as they were the day you bought them? No? Fret not. It’s only natural that something that you use daily or even occasionally gets tarnished. The good news is that you can get all the shine back. No, you don’t have to go to a jeweler for that. You can do it yourself at home. Let’s have a look at some really simple hacks to keep your fancy jewelry cleaner and shinier.Household Hacks to Keep Your Fancy Jewelry Clean and Shiny

Give Your Ornaments a Salt Water Bath

Just add some salt to a pot of boiled water. Let your jewelry sit in the salt water for a while. Take it out and dry it with a soft cloth. Use a toothpick to clean the nooks and crannies. Bingo! All that crud and tarnish will vanish like it was never there. For deep cleaning, you can add pieces of aluminum foil in the salt water too. The aluminum will react with salt to help remove the oxidized impurities leaving the jewelry all clean and lustrous.

Toothpaste Doesn’t just Clean your Teeth, you Know

Some jewelry items you are supposed to wear all the time, like your wedding ring. It’s not surprising if it gets dull. The best and the easiest way to keep this extra special jewelry item all sparkly, is to wash it with toothpaste regularly. Just pour some hot water over your wedding ring or any other jewelry item, put some toothpaste on a tooth brush and scrub until all the dirt is removed. Wash it with warm water and Voila! Your wedding ring is as good as new.

You’re not the Only one Who Likes Getting Drunk

Whenever you feel like having some beer, don’t forget about all the gold jewelry you have. Relax, you don’t have to share a lot. Your gold is happy with just the leftover beer. Pour it on a piece of soft cloth, rub your jewelry items with it, and pat dry with a towel. Works miraculously, doesn’t it?

Your Diamonds and Gemstones would Love some Club Soda

Just dip your diamonds and gemstones in a glass of club soda for a night. Get them out in the morning, clean them with pure water and pat them dry. Grab your sunglasses; you won’t be able to handle the lustre!

The Window Cleaner is not that Useless

Spray some window cleaner on your old, stained jewelry and use an old toothbrush to clean it thoroughly. Just remember this is only for your metallic ornaments or pieces with crystalline gemstones. Do not use it on opaque stones such as opal or turquoise and organic gems such as coral or pearl. The ammonia and other chemicals in the window cleaner can ruin the beautiful colors of these lovely stones.
