HOT HERMES: Hermes Bag has made auction history again. A 30 cm diamond matte Himlayan Nilo crocodile Birkin bag, featuring 18k while gold hardware and and 242 diamonds with a total weight of 9.84 carats, sold today for $185,000 at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills.
That makes it the second-most expensive bag to sell at auction after a $203,150 shiny rouge 30 cm Porosus diamond Birkin that sold in 2011 at a Heritage auction in Dallas. Tuesday’s sale was part of the Heritage “Luxury Accessories Signature Auction” series and included 480 of handbags from Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and others. The buyer remains anonymous, as does the consigner, although she was present at the auction.
