Make Body Wax Home

There are various methods to remove hair from the body. Some women use razor while others use hair removing creams. Interaction of razor with the skin ends up causing skin rashes and minor cuts and bruises. On the other hand, application of hair removal creams makes the skin color darker and hair removing creams hold chemicals that may harm the skin when used excessively over long periods. This leaves us with the only option to remove hair using wax.

Wax kits are available in the market. Wax strips are also available which need to be rubbed between hands before applying the strip on the skin. These strips, at times, do not give the desired results and we do not have time to go to the parlour every now and then. In order to save time and money, you can make wax at home.

It is very simple to make wax at home. There are different ways of preparing wax. Wax is prepared from honey and sugar. Some people also prepare wax using sugar and water.

How to make wax at home

Wax Recipe # 1:

Take equal portions of sugar and honey. Approximately 250 grams each. You will also need one tablespoon lemon juice and a few drops essential oil if you want your wax to smell good. Use of essential oils is optional, if you don’t have it, leave it. Put sugar on the stove and let it caramelize. Once the sugar has caramelized, add lemon juice and honey. Mix with a wooden spoon. Do not use steel at this point as the wax will stick to the spoon. Check whether your wax sticks properly and is done. If it’s too hard, add a little water. The wax should be in the consistency similar to a pancake batter.

Wax Recipe # 2:

Take equal portions of sugar and water. Take approximately 250ml water and weigh sugar in the same cup for equal quantity. You will also need the juice of two lemons. Combine water and sugar in a bowl and put on heat. Add lemon juice. Let the mixture simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. The water will evaporate and make the mixture sticky. In order to check whether the wax is done, take a small bowl with icy cold water. Put a drop of wax in the cold water. If it forms a proper ball that means the wax is ready. Cool the wax and use accordingly.

Both these wax recipes can be prepared in advanced and stored in a jar at room temperature. To reuse, heat the wax in a double boiler or on a low flame on the stove. Apply the wax using a wooden spatula or a blunt knife. While using wax, one should be very careful. Wax can also cause redness on the skin. Make sure you take precautions while waxing your body, especially your face. Apply talcum powder on the skin before applying wax. This will absorb body oils and the wax will stick to your skin properly. If you plan to get yourself waxed, always exfoliate your skin 2 days in advance. Exfoliating will help remove in-grown hair and your skin will be more polished and shiny after the wax. Always apply wax in the direction of your hair growth. Use cotton strips to remove wax from your skin. Place the strip on top of the applied wax and pull against the direction of the hair. Repeat as desired.

Once you get the hang of it, making wax at home is fairly easy and will save you lots of time and money in the future. So try these recipes and make wax at home.
