Adele’s delight as Skyfall Best Song Oscar Nomination

Adele Oscar Nomination

Adele Oscar NominationBritish singer and new mother Adele has been nominated for an Oscar for her 007 theme Skyfall – but the Bond blockbuster sensationally missed out on a Best Film nod. The singer took to her Twitter page for the first time in nearly a month to express her delight over the honour, tweeting: ‘Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!! Thank you x‘ If Skyfall wins it will be the first 007 song to scoop an Academy Award in the 89-year history of the Oscars.

Although Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, made more than $1 billion worldwide and is the most successful film yet in the 50-year history it was snubbed by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, despite the ceremony having a special Bond ‘tribute’ segment to celebrate the franchise. If Adele’s Skyfall took home the Best Original Song Oscar, it would mark the first time a Bond theme has taken the honour.

It would not be the first Bond song to receive a nomination, however, as Paul McCartney and Wings’ Live And Let Die was up for the prize back in 1973 – but lost out to The Way We Were. The singer is competing against Before My Time from Chasing Ice, Everybody Needs A Best Friend from Ted, Pi’s Lullaby and Suddenly from Les Miserables. Two more Bond themes have been nominated for the prestigious award – Carly Simon’s Nobody Does It Better in 1979, from the movie The Spy Who Loved Me, and Sheena Easton’s For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

There had been fears that the track, which Adele co-wrote with Paul Epworth, could not receive a nomination because it included parts of the infamous 007 tune. Adele is thought to be making her first public performance since giving birth at the upcoming Academy Awards. Her nomination for best original song puts her up against Oscars host Seth MacFarlane, who is nominated for Everybody Needs A Best Friend from his film Ted.

With her nomination it looks more and more likely that the 24-year-old will perform at the glitzy ceremony. The Rolling in the Deep singer is thought to be making her comeback performance on during the  special James Bond tribute segment, at the Dolby Theatre. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announced last year that it would be giving a special tribute to the James Bond franchise which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012. – Dailymail
